ST. JOHN'S, NL, Oct. 2 /CNW/ - New IntraLase
Method(TM) now available at
Bense Vision Laser Eye Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland. The
IntraLase laser
eliminates the surgical blade, or microkeratome, typically used
for creating a
corneal flap prior to the LASIK procedure.
LASIK procedures traditionally start with the creation of a corneal
flap,
using a hand-held device with an oscillating metal blade (or microkeratome).
With the new computer-guided IntraLase laser - used in place of
the
microkeratome blade - surgeons can now create a more precise flap
with
micron-level accuracy and unparalleled safety.
Dr. Michael Bense, a retinal specialist who pioneered laser surgery
in
Atlantic Canada in 1994, is quoted as saying:
"I have performed thousands of bladed LASIK procedures over
the years,
but now, I am truly amazed by the safety and astounding results
that the
IntraLase affords my laser patients. I know that the IntraLase
Method of doing
LASIK will likely soon replace all LASIK procedures done by blade."
